ABOUT US
The Consejo Minero de Chile A.G. is an association that groups public and private, national and international large size mining companies that produce copper, gold and silver.
The large-scale mining sector, represented by the Consejo Minero, is physically, economically and socially important at the national and international levels.
The members of the Consejo Minero account for over 60% of Chile’s total exports, making large-scale mining the most important industry in the country. Chile is clearly a mining nation.
At an international level, Chile’s large-scale mining produces 40% of the world’s copper, and output has more than quadrupled since 1990. Chile has tripled reserves since 1990 and now holds 39% of the world’s known copper reserves.
If we take in consideration all the workers in the mining sector and their families, over 2.5 million people (one out of every seven Chileans) live off the large size mining sector.
This is an innovative, technologically advanced, capital intensive, environmentally responsible and socially progressive industry. It is also a globalized industry that is profoundly integrated into the world’s capital markets, products, services and human resources. All of these are areas that compete with great efficiency.
The Consejo Minero was founded July 14, 1998 with the goal of representing large mining companies and promoting their contribution to sustainable development and society.
This industry fully understands its responsibility to deliver long term social and economic benefits for all Chileans, without compromising health, security, the environment and the needs and expectations of the communities where mining companies operate. These companies are also committed to contributing to the growth and sustainable prosperity of current and future generations by integrating economic progress, responsible social development and effective management of the environment.
The Consejo Minero believes that these objectives are achieved by working in a pro investment environment, where mining projects are secure, stable, profitable, innovative, technically appropriate, environmentally appropriate and socially responsible.
The purpose of the Consejo Minero is to promote world class public policy and operational practices for an industry that understands that policies and practices held in the past are not sustainable for future opportunities.
The Consejo Minero seeks to generate and facilitate a favorable environment for mining companies to carry out their business and obtain licenses to operate.
The Consejo Minero works as an association of companies that share the following purposes:
-
Promote the adoption of modern and stable public policies that create an environment leading to Chile’s growth and prosperity,
-
identify and promote operational principles and practices that are consistent with the leadership and commitment of member companies with sustainable development,
-
ensure involvement with opinion leaders and other interest groups,
-

In summary, the Consejo Minero seeks to be the reference of large-scale mining, well known and appreciated for its economic, social and environmental leadership and performance that generates value for society.
